Thank you for this. This echoes my thoughts on the situation perfectly. I've been writing since I was 12, starting with poetry and short stories. By 14 I was writing short novels. Not very good ones, but I was writing them because I loved to do it. It was catharsis for a long time. I just wrote for myself. My skill improved over time and I did get a few things published eventually, but I was always reluctant to call myself a writer for the same reasons. At the very least, I now know that if a person who uses AI assistance to write can call themselves a writer, then I, a person who writes completely from his heart, mind, soul, and life experience, should be able to as well.
